ASU Hispanic Mother-Daughter Program

Raising the Educational and Career Aspirations of Hispanic Women

Vision and Mission

The ASU Hispanic Mother Daughter Program (HMDP) raises educational and career aspirations of Hispanic women. HMDP increases the number of first-generation Hispanic women who complete a bachelor’s degree by directly involving mothers in the educational process of their daughters.

Program

Counselors and teachers encourage their seventh grade students who meet the criteria to apply to the program. With school administrators, HMDP selects 100 teams of seventh-grade Latina students and their mothers from schools with pre-established partnerships with ASU. Students and mothers selected for the program attend workshops and events throughout the students' eighth grade and high school years.  Students in the program also receive one-on-one school visits from HMDP advisors.
