Barrett Summer Scholars Eligibility

Gifted students from Arizona schools who meet all of the following requirements are eligible to apply:

• Enrollment in 7th, 8th or 9th grades during the 2008-2009 school year.
• Test score in the 97th percentile or above on a state board approved test for the identification of gifted students in Arizona.
  • Each applicant should check with their school/district to learn more about his/her gifted exam results. Qualification at the 97th percentile or higher in any one core academic area tested and taken at any grade level will be accepted for eligibility. A list of exams approved by the State of Arizona can be found on the Department of Education web site.
  • Tests that measure academic achievement (such as AIMS, NAEP Test, Stanford Achievement Test (SAT9 or SAT10) or Terra Nova) rather than intelligence or cognitive abilities will not be accepted for eligibility into the program.
  • Test score results must be submitted with complete application.
